Shahnawaz Dahani criticises selectors for ignoring him — PCB

Pakistani pacer Shahnawaz Dahani was unhappy with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the selectors for not including him in the squad for Asia Cup and Afghanistan series.

Former wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif tweeted a picture containing the List-A career stats of Pakistan’s fast bowlers that were included in the squad.

Dahani did not like that he was not part of that list and ended up tweeting a picture of his stats and wrote: “Seems as if Dahani is not a Pakistani pacer??”

In a reply to his own tweet, the pacer was also disappointed with sports journalists for not questioning the selectors.

“Not even single journalist or cricket analyst even dared to ask questions or show these stats to selectors #Ripsportsjournalism,” he tweeted.

However, the tweets were later deleted by Shahnawaz Dahani.

The PCB on Wednesday (August 10) announced the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan and the Asia Cup.

The squad was revealed by newly-appointed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq in a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

An 18-player squad will take on Afghanistan in Sri Lanka from August 22 till 26 and it will be trimmed to 17 players for the Asia Cup, which begins from the Multan Cricket Stadium on August 30 when Pakistan play Nepal.

The squad was finalised following consultations between the national men’s selection committee – which also includes Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Hassan Cheema (secretary) – and Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam.

Saud Shakeel, who maintained his form in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka was included in the squad along with Tayyab Tahir, who score a century in the Emerging Asia Cup final against India.

Faheem Ashraf, who last played an ODI back in 2021, also made it to the ODI squad for the Afghanistan series and Asia Cup.
