Australian all-rounder Cameroon Green opened up on the lucky draw against England in the fourth Ashes Test in Manchester.
The fourth Ashes Test was drawn due to continuous intervention by rain for the last two days. Not even a single ball was bowled on the final because the rain did not stop all day.
Green, 24, believes that Australia got away with a lucky draw as England completely dominated the game from day one.
“I think we definitely got away with one there. There’s no point denying it. Whilst we were behind the game, and you never know what would have happened, cricket is a funny game, but England dominated this one,” Cameron Green told cricket.com.au.
“We definitely got out of jail. We didn’t play our best game. The rain gods were in our favour the last couple of days. You just take it and move on to the next game.”
Green also talked about Ashes 2019 where Australia had to play the fifth Test at The Oval and how England’s comeback levelled the series. The 24-year-old stated that his team will go into the ground with a winning mindset.
“The last time they were here they had a win here to retain the Ashes, but it’s a bit different this time around. I’m sure a few guys are hurting from last time. We’ll keep it level-headed and looking forward to the next game,” Green added.
It must be noted that the Aussies have failed to win an away Ashes series since 2001.
Earlier on day five, England had a golden chance to level to series by winning this Test as they were in a firm position to clinch the victory but the weather’s intervention made that impossible.
By winning this match, the hosts could have had a chance to play the decider at the Oval but they will now look forward to drawing the series.
Australia scored 317 in their first innings, however, England replied with a massive 592 runs. The visitors were 214-5, trailing by 61 runs, when the match was stopped due to rain.
