India have defeated West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first Test on day three at Windsor Park Dominica.

With the win, the Blues now lead the two-match series 1-0.

Ravichandran Ashwin starred for India as the off-spinner took a total of 12 wickets in the match.

He crossed 700 international wickets in the match and also goes past the legendary Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh who ended his cricket career with 712 wickets.

Earlier on day one, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first.

The Caribbean side couldn’t deal with the spin attack of India as they were all out for just 150. No one other than the middle-order batter Alick Athanaze scored more than 20 runs on a tricky spinning pitch.

Ashwin took a fifer in the first innings while Jadeja also took three wickets.

While batting in their first innings, India declared at 421-5 with a 271-run lead thanks to a spectacular 171 by the debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also scored a ton and then fell prey to Athanaze. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored 76 runs and then soon was removed by Rahkeem Cornwall.

West Indies, who started their second innings with a 271-run deficit, couldn’t score more than 130 this time as they were, once again, struggling badly against Ashwin and Jadeja.

Despite Ashwin taking 12 wickets and creating two records, it was the debutant Jaiswal who bagged the Player of the Match Award.
