Manchester United’s new signing Mason Mount is keen on making fans proud after featuring in his first match for the club, a 2-0 victory against Championship side Leeds United in a friendly in Oslo on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old midfielder moved from Chelsea to United earlier this month for 55 million pounds, according to British media reports.
"When we turned up last night and when we turned up at the stadium today, the support has been amazing. They came out and showed up for us today and it's amazing to see," he told MUTV after playing the first 45 minutes of the match.
"This is what we want to play for and we want to make them proud."
Manager Erik ten Hag also lauded Mount, with the Dutch manager looking to strengthen his squad ahead of United's return to the Champions League.
"Oh (he was) great, but we could expect this. He has so many skills and I'm sure we will take so much joy from him. He will contribute to our performance, absolutely," he said, adding that there was more to come from Mount on the pitch.
United will begin their Premier League campaign on August 14 at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The midfielder has also gotten #7 which was previously worn by legendary Man United players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and George Best.
The 24-year-old is the first summer signing of the 20-time Premier League (PL) winners.
Mount joined Chelsea as a six-year-old and was promoted to the first team at the age of 18, since then, the midfielder featured in 195 matches wearing the Blue colours, netting 33 goals and assisting 37.
He also left his mark in the history books of the Blues after assisting Kai Havertz, who scored the only goal in the 2021 UEFA Champions League (UCL) final against Manchester City at the Estadio do Dragao, Porto.
The footballer also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, however, he failed to win any domestic title in six years with the club.
