West Indies defeated Oman by seven wickets in the Super Six stage of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday in Harare.

While batting first, Oman scored a total of 221-9 in 50 overs. Suraj Kumar was the top scorer for the batting side after notching up 53 off 65 with six boundaries.

However, West Indies chased the target in the 39th over as opener Brandon King scored a century and their captain and wicketkeeper Shai Hope was the second-highest scorer with 63 runs.

Sri Lanka is the only team to have qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup in India while the hosts Zimbabwe, Oman and West Indies are out of the race for the mega event.

Scotland will face the Netherlands in a winner-takes-all clash on Thursday (July 6) with one last spot still up for grabs at this year’s World Cup in India.

While Scotland would need a simple victory to secure their place in the World Cup, Netherlands, however, would need to beat the Scots with respect to Net Run Rate (NRR).

“The NRR equation will vary depending on how many runs are scored but, as an example, if Netherlands score 250 then Scotland can afford to lose by up to 31 runs. A win by 32 or more runs for Netherlands would lift their NRR above Scotland's in this scenario,” the ICC stated in a press release.

“If Scotland bat first and score 250, they will stay ahead on NRR if Netherlands chase it down in around 44.1 overs (depending on how they get their winning runs). If they chase it down any sooner, then Netherlands will trump Scotland's run rate and take the second qualification spot.”
