There was a controversy on the final day of the second Ashes Test after the English wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow was run out in a bizarre way.
The batter was run-out by the Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey on Sunday at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Batting on 10, Bairstow was on his way to developing a crucial partnership with the skipper Ben Stokes before Carey ran out the batter as he wandered out of the crease.
The unorthodox run-out of the 33-year-old immediately started trending on social media. While some said the run-out was fair, others said it was against the “spirit of cricket”.
Here is how Twitter reacted
An altercation also took place between the celebrating Aussies and the shocked Englishmen as Stokes had a heated exchange of words with Pat Cummins.
The Lord’s crowd charged up after the incident and booed the Aussies for a larger part of the game.
England, 243-6 at Lunch, still need 128 in 83 overs with just four wickets in hand with Stokes sharing the pitch with Stuart Broad.
With 108 off 147 with 13 boundaries, we are in for an exceptional remaining day as we might, once again, get to see Stokes guiding England to a victory as he did in Ashes 2019 at Headingley with an all-time great knock of 135.
