Former Indian Test cricketer Sunil Gavaskar responded to Rohit Sharma's suggestion on ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.
After a 209-run defeat, Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, made excuses by blaming the time, venue and format for the final contest.
"Why after the IPL final? Why cannot it be March? June is not the only month we should play the final," said Sharma who scored just 58 runs during the final.
"It can be played any time of the year and anywhere in the world, not just in England, it can be played anywhere in the world.
"A three-match series would be nice but it's about finding that window, where it can fit in. An event like this you work hard for two years and then you only have one shot at it," he added.
While reacting to this statement, Gavaskar said the format was decided long time ago.
"The format of the tournament was decided a long time ago. You also know about the rules and must prepare according to them. IPL has one final, and you don’t ask for three matches to hand over the trophy to the winner. Before the first ball of the WTC was bowled, you knew it would have one final. So you can’t ask for more games," he said.
Indian batters failed to show dominance in the WTC final as they failed to win the contest for second time in a row. In 2021, India lost to New Zealand in the WTC final by eight wickets.
