Floyd Mayweather Junior’s exhibition boxing match against John Gotti III ended in chaos as the fight was stopped in the sixth round on Sunday (June 11) at the FLA live arena, Florida.
Chaos erupted in the middle of the fight between the two. People from both of the fighters’ camps jumped straight into the box and crowded the room and started fighting as the bout was called off in the sixth round.
Mayweather Jr, quickly analysing the situation, flew the ring to get out of the madness.
The referee Kenny Bayless had a very tough time trying to separate the two boxers as Mayweather and Gotti trashed-talked their way through more than half of the fight.
The fight was chaotic from the very start. The start was delayed briefly after the two camps got into it early on, and Mayweather was toying with Gotti the whole way through.
Gotti complained frequently and was called out for holding late in the fifth round. He complained to the referee about being hit in the back of the head at one point and even threw Mayweather into an illegal hold.
Things got ugly when Baylees stopped the fight.
Gotti ran around Bayless to come after Mayweather. The two then started to throw punches at each other that’s where everyone came into the ring and more pushing and shoving continued. Gotti was pushed to his corner and Mayweather back to his.
Gotti, 30, held a 5-1 MMA record and is 2-0 as a professional boxer. He beat Alex Citrowske earlier this year in his last professional fight. Gotti is the grandson of infamous former New York mob boss John Gotti.
Meanwhile, Mayweather officially retired from boxing in 2017 with an undefeated record, though he’s been competing in exhibition bouts ever since. He even took on YouTuber Logan Paul in a fight in 2021.
