Despite having two years left in his current contract, the club will reward the goalkeeper for his remarkable performances throughout the current Premier League season.
The English goalkeeper started in all 35 Premier League (PL) games this season where he has kept 13 clean sheets, only behind Manchester United’s David De Gea who has 15 clean sheets.
He has conceded 39 goals in 35 league games.
Ramsdale was Arsenal’s unsung hero in their 2-0 victory over Newcastle United last Sunday, where he made five saves, which has brought them within one point of league leaders Manchester City, who have played one game less.
Arsenal is expected to make an official announcement about the goalkeeper’s new contract with an improved salary soon.
The English club is also keen on keeping other important players as Bukayo Saka, who is also very close to a contract renewal. The 21-year-old right winger has directly contributed to 24 goals in 35 league games this season and is considered one of the key members of Mikel Arteta’s team.
The club has already tied the Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli to a new contract and is currently in advanced talks with the French center-back William Saliba over fresh terms. Both of them are first-team players and are considered very important for Arteta’s future project.
The Gunners are currently one point behind the league leaders Man City, having played one more game. Their next three league games are against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves).
Meanwhile, City’s remaining matches are against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford.
The last time Arsenal won the Premier League title was in the 2003-04 season, the famous ‘Invincibles’ campaign as they didn’t lose any of their 38 games that season.
The last trophy Arsenal won was the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season, they also won the FA Community Shield in 2020. Both of those trophies were won by Arteta.
