LAHORE: Punjab’s athletics management committee on Tuesday unveiled the provincial athletics men’s and women’s squads for the 34th National Games slated to be held in Quetta from May 22-30.
The squads were on Tuesday shared by the Punjab’s athletics management committee’s member Abdul Ghaffar Gujjar.
The other day trials were held for the purpose here at the Punjab Stadium in which large number of male and female athletes from across Punjab showcased their talent.
Men’s team
Muhammad Muneer (100m), Faisal Rehman (100m), Muhammad Hasnain (200m), Abdullah Babar (400m), Muhammad Bilal (400m), Arif Ali (4x400m), Muhammad Farhan (800m), Naveed Ahmed (high jump), Muhammad Tayyab (5000m and 10000m), Naveed Ashraf (javelin throw), Hammad Khaliq (discuss throw), Muhammad Daud (hammer throw), Ali Hassan (shot put), Muhammad Usama (4x100m), Muhammad Shahbaz Akbar (marathon), Israr Ahmed (manager), Irfan Ali Sulehri (coach).
Women’s squad
Kinza Sarfaraz (100m and 400m), Ayesha Arshad (100m and 400m), Saher Fatima (4x100), Bisma Raza (200m,4x400m), Hooria (200m), Dua Sohail (4x100m), Saba Yousuf (5000m and 10000m), Ishrat (shot put and discuss throw), Bakhtawar (hammer throw), Ayesha (4x400 and walk race), Nabeela Noureen (manager), Abdul Ghaffar Gujjar (coach).
The torch relay of the National Games will start its journey from the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi on May 6 as the organisers in Quetta have finalised its routes in the run up to the event.
As many as 32 sports are to be contested in the 34th National Games to be held in Balochistan’s capital city of Quetta from May 22-30. Over 3000 athletes are expected to compete in the 9-day Games that will be the first in recent times to be held in Quetta.
The organisers have finalised 32 sports to be contested during the mega event. These include archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, bodybuilding, boxing, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, rugby, rowing, sailing, shooting, squash, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tug of war, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and fencing.
