Real Madrid’s star midfielder Toni Kroos has decided to stay at the Spanish club for another year, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Kroos never negotiated with any other club since the choice was between retirement or staying for one more year in Madrid. His current contract with the Spanish champions was set to expire at the end of this season.
The 33-year-old joined Real Madrid in 2014 from German club Bayern Munich.
Kroos retired from international duty with Germany in June 2021 after a last 16 elimination by England in Euro 2020.
He has won the Champions League four times with Los Blancos, as well as once with the German giants, along with three Spanish and three German league titles, as well as the World Cup with his national team in 2014.
Kroos has notched up 27 goals and 88 assists in 405 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. He has two goals and five assists for the club this season.
Kroos and winger Vinicius Jr will be available for their Champions League trip to Chelsea next week after missing Saturday's LaLiga 2-0 win at Cadiz.
Kroos and Brazil international Vinicius Jr, arguably Real's most influential player this season, were left out of the game against lowly Cadiz in order to recover from leg muscle strains.
"They couldn't play today because they both had small issues," Ancelotti told reporters on Saturday.
"They trained separately today but tomorrow they'll train as normal and be fine for Tuesday."
Real are due to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, having beaten the London club 2-0 in the first leg at home earlier this week.
Real Madrid are second in the league with 62 points, 10 points behind leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand.
