All-rounder David Wiese has thanked Lahore Qalandars for reviving his international career.
The South Africa-born Namibian, who has represented Qalandars since 2019, feels privileged to be a part of the defending champions of Pakistan Super League with season eight just around the corner.
"The Pakistan Super League has been a massive kick-start for my career and it's all because of Lahore Qalandars for picking me in the replacement draft," David Wiese was quoted as saying by Lahore Qalandars in a press release.
The 37-year-old, who has featured in more than 300 T20 cricket matches has represented Lahore Qalandars 35 times, scoring 478 runs and claiming 27 wickets, which includes the remarkable display of defending eight runs on six balls against Islamabad United in PSL 7. He has also played numerous explosive cameos for his side at the back end of the innings.
"Before coming to PSL, I wasn't performing well in cricket. I wasn't picked up in any other team but I am really thankful to Lahore Qalandars for showing faith and trusting my abilities," Wiese added.
"Fortunately, I did well in my first game and since then I am playing really good cricket which gave me a lot of confidence.
"Since the moment, I have joined the Qalandars, I am nothing but an improved of myself. I am now able to perform in different and difficult stages. I am able to play a lot more tournaments now and I am doing better for other teams as well."
David Wiese played at the 2016 World Cup for his native South Africa but with further opportunities limited, he switched his allegiance to neighbouring Namibia. He qualified to play for Namibia by first descent, since his father was born there, and was part of the national squad for the T20 World Cup in both 2021 and 2022.
He has featured in 15 ODIs and 39 T20Is over the course of his international career, while scoring 783 runs and claiming 56 wickets.
It must be noted that the opening ceremony of PSL 8 will be held in Multan on February 13 prior to the tournament opener between 2021 winners Multan Sultans and defending champions Lahore Qalandars; meanwhile the closing ceremony and final will be played on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.
