The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday announced the nominees for the ICC Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.

The nominees feature two pacers with remarkable Test debuts, a Sri Lankan left-hander who equalled Don Bradman's iconic record, and a spirited Pakistan opener who led his team to historic triumphs.

England’s Gus Atkinson made an immediate impact in Test cricket during James Anderson’s farewell match in July, swiftly establishing himself as a frontline bowler in the format.

With 52 dismissals in 11 Tests this year, including a sensational 7/45 on debut at Lord’s, Atkinson played a pivotal role in England's series win in New Zealand and home triumphs against the West Indies and Sri Lanka.

His 101-ball century against Sri Lanka further showcased his all-round abilities.

Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis emerged as a batting revelation in 2024, matching Don Bradman’s record of reaching 1,000 Test runs in just 13 innings.

With 1,049 runs at an average of 74.92 across nine Tests, Mendis delivered five centuries and three fifties.

His unbeaten 182 against New Zealand anchored a series sweep, while his performances in England helped secure Sri Lanka’s first Test win there in a decade.

Pakistan’s Saim Ayub became a vital cog in the batting lineup across formats, particularly excelling in ODIs.

The left-hander powered Pakistan to a historic ODI series win in Australia after 22 years and a 3-0 sweep in South Africa, scoring two centuries and earning the Player of the Series title.

Ayub also contributed with the ball, showcasing his versatility in critical moments, including a game-changing knock against South Africa in Paarl.

West Indies’ Shamar Joseph took the cricketing world by storm on his Test debut in Australia, claiming 13 wickets in two matches, including two five-wicket hauls.

His heroics at the Gabba, where he recorded figures of 7/68, helped secure a rare victory for the West Indies and earned him the Player of the Series award.

Joseph continued his stellar form at home, dismantling opposition batting lineups against Bangladesh and South Africa.
