Former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has opened up after being named as the assistant coach of the Pakistan team in all formats of the game on Sunday.
Mahmood recently served as head coach of the national men’s team during the T20I series against New Zealand on home soil.
The 49-year-old is also looking forward to working with Gary Kirsten, head coach of white-ball cricket, and Jason Gillespie, who will be the coach in Test cricket.
"Being appointed as the Assistant Head coach for all formats is an immense privilege and honor, allowing me the opportunity to serve my country once again," Mahmood said on X, formerly Twitter.
"Pakistan and cricket have bestowed upon me a name and honor, and I am eager to give back what I can to the game that has given me so much.
"With our combined wealth of experience and knowledge, I am optimistic about making a significant contribution to the Pakistan team. I firmly believe that perseverance, belief, and discipline are the cornerstone of a team’s growth.
"I am eagerly looking forward to this new role, and I recognize that the support and prayers of our fans are crucial as we embark on this journey together."
It must be noted that Pakistan team will play three T20Is against Ireland and four against England away from home in May.
Pakistan squad, under the leadership of Babar Azam, will leave for the tour of Ireland on May 7.
