Lena Oberdorf was roped in by Bayern Munich on Thursday from rivals Wolfsburg for a reported transfer fee of up to 450,000 euros ($486,000).

The 22-year-old will join at the end of the season on a contract which runs until 2028, with the reported fee making her the most expensive German female footballer ever.

When Zambian Racheal Kundananji joined American side Bay FC from Real Madrid for a reported fee of 735,000 euros ($787,000), it was the highest transfer fee paid in women's football.

The midfielder, Oberdorf, played and led the boys teams until the age of 17, before joining the professional ranks at Essen.

She joined Wolfsburg in 2020 and has clinched three German Cups and one league title with the Wolves.

Alongside Germany captain Alexandra Popp, Oberdorf's Wolfsburg suffered a 3-2 loss in the 2023 Champions League final against Barcelona.

Oberdorf is a key player for the German national team set-up, having featured in the 2022 final against England at Wembley. She was named best young player at the tournament.

Wolfsburg currently sit one point behind defending champions Bayern on the Bundesliga table.

"I will continue to give everything for Wolfsburg until the summer and then I'll look forward to a new challenge" Oberdorf said in a statement.
