Daniil Medvedev scripted a breathtaking win after beating Alexander Zverev 5-7, 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), 6-3 in the Australian Open 2024 semi-final to book a thrilling final with inform Jannik Sinner.

Medvedev came back from two sets down and rallied to a historic win after a five-set battle that lasted for over four hours.

While doing so, the world number three joined Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the elite list at Grand Slams (GS).

The Russian recorded his 10th win vs ATP top 10 opponents at GS, becoming the only player to win 10 or more matches against top 10 players alongside Djokovic and Nadal at majors since 2017.

He also qualified for his sixth GS final, all of them coming on hard courts, three at the US and AUS Open each, as he became the player with the most GS finals on the surface of any male player since the US Open 2019.

Medvedev played in the 2021 and 2022 Australian Open finals where he lost to Djokovic and Nadal respectively. This will be the first GS final where he will not be facing either of them.

The Russian played his third five-setter at the ongoing slam and now one final test awaits against Sinner, who dominated Djokovic in the first semi-final.

Sinner and Medvedev will meet each other for the 10th time overall, although the Russian leads the head-to-head 6-3, the Italian won their last three meetings.

Currently ranked world number four, Sinner became the first player to beat Djokovic at Melbourne Park in six years and has only lost one set throughout the entire campaign.
