Kylian Mbappe is reportedly demanding €70m (£60m/$76m) annually and a transfer bonus of €125m (£107m/$136m) to finalise his move to Real Madrid, as per Sport Bild.
The World Cup-winning forward is currently letting his contract run down at Paris Saint-Germain, and if these terms are not met by the summer of 2024, he will become a free agent. Speculation about a transfer to Spain for the 25-year-old French international has been ongoing for some time.
Real Madrid is eager to secure Mbappe as their next 'Galactico' but negotiations on personal terms are proving challenging.
This difficulty arises because Mbappe is asking for twice the amount that Los Blancos are willing to offer. Real Madrid has reportedly presented a €35m (£30m/$38m) annual offer, which falls far short of Mbappe's demands.
The La Liga giants at Santiago Bernabeu are seeking "written guarantees" from the Frenchman if a compromise on terms is to be reached, extending the protracted saga.
This situation persists despite PSG's decision to exclude Mbappe from their pre-season tour of Asia last summer, expressing displeasure for his failure to sign a contract extension. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi eventually welcomed him back to the squad in September after new manager Luis Enrique lost his first league game and made a statement.
"Kylian Mbappe is an incredible player and fantastic person. And the PSG team, on and off the field, has never been so united."
There's also Liverpool to contend with, as the Premier League title chasers have long maintained an interest in the World Cup winner. Mbappe will want to have his future resolved by the time France kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Austria on 17th June.
Not only that, the forward is then expected to represent his country at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, with the football starting on Wednesday, 24th July, just 10 days after the Euros final in Berlin.
During an interview with France2 earlier this month, Mbappe declared: "I've always had the 'Olympic flame'.
"Along with the FIFA World Cup, the Olympic Games are the biggest sports event in the world. The Games in Paris, 100 years after [the last time they were held in the city], it would mean the world to me. The idea of competing at the Games with France would be an extraordinary opportunity. It's actually more of a dream than an opportunity."
