The Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid transfer saga have once again caught the attention of many as Los Blancos look to have the French striker for the upcoming season.
However, Mbappe's representatives have strongly refuted a report alleging his agreement to join the La Liga giants on a free transfer this summer.
Mbappe's contract with Paris Saint-Germain concludes at the end of the season, allowing him to engage in talks for a pre-contract arrangement with other clubs.
Real Madrid has been frequently speculated to secure the forward's signature, and Foot Mercato stated on Sunday night that he had ultimately settled on terms for a summer transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Mbappe's team issued a statement to RMC Sport on Monday, downplaying the validity of such assertions.
"There is no agreement about Kylian's future, especially as there are no discussions underway about it. No type of influence could dictate the timing of Kylian's discussions, reflections or decisions," the statement read.
Mbappe himself commented on such speculation last week even before the report from Foot Mercato's emergence.
"I haven't made my decision yet. I haven't made a choice. With the agreement I had with the president in the summer, my decision is not important as we managed to protect all the parties and preserved the serenity of the club for the challenges to come, which is the most important," he said.
Last week, 90min reported that PSG are calm regarding Mbappe's future, as they wouldn't suffer financially even if he left without a transfer fee. There exists a binding agreement between the club and player that might lead Mbappe to repay up to €80m (£69m) if he departs this summer. This sum depends on various factors and has been termed as a complex legal arrangement by sources.
There's a chance that Mbappe could extend his contract at Parc des Princes, yet this might primarily aim to pave the way for a subsequent transfer at a reasonable cost.
