The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday announced that Fatima Sana will lead Pakistan women’s team, taking over from Nida Dar, who will miss the second ODI against New Zealand women in Christchurch on Friday, December 15.
Dar was hit on her face during the first ODI on Tuesday during the 44th over of New Zealand innings.
Following assessment by doctor today, Dar has been reported to have symptoms of concussion. She has been advised for a complete rest for next two days. Her availability for the third ODI will be determined in due course.
Sana, who made her international debut in the away series against South Africa in May 2019, will become the 10th captain of the women’s team in the ODI format.
“It is an honor to lead the Pakistan women's side in ODIs, although the circumstances are unfortunate with Nida Dar's injury. She has been an inspiration, and I wish her a speedy recovery,” said Sana.
“We had a historic T20I series win against New Zealand, and I know the players are eager to perform well in the ODI series too. Although we didn't have a good outing in the first ODI, we are all geared up to excel in tomorrow’s game.”
Pakistan are 1-0 down in the three-match series.
