England cricket team's opener Dawid Malan backed his side's head coach Matthew Mott saying that the players should step up and take responsibility for the poor performance in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.
England, the winners of the 2019 World Cup, have been humiliated in India in the last 25 days as Jos Buttler's men have only one win in six matches with their only victory coming against the struggling Bangladesh team on October 10 in Dharamshala.
"Motty is not the one walking out on the field," said Malan as quoted by the BBC."As players, we need to take responsibility when we cross that rope. We are being given everything we need to perform.
"The facilities and work, everything is being done as it always has been, we just haven't been able to find a way to get wins on the board."
Malan then stated that the team's performance isn't up to par and they have not played the way they wanted which is disappointing.
"We've played six games now and we've not been anywhere near where we wanted to be," said Malan. "It is disappointing from that point of view.
"It is really hard to sum up. We just can't seem to get anything going at the moment or any rhythm or momentum.
"We can't put our finger on it and the disappointing thing is we're not even competing in games at the moment."
It is worth mentioning that England is currently ranked at the bottom of the World Cup points table and their participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy is at stake.
Buttler's men play Australia, Netherlands and Pakistan in their next three matches and the English team is entirely focused on winning their remaining matches so they can at least be in contention to qualify for the ICC event to be held in 2025.
