Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who led them to two World Cup triumphs, made an interesting claim about the in-form Indian cricket team saying that it will only take one bad game to mount pressure on the Blues.
India got off to a dominant start in the ICC World Cup 2023 after registering back-to-back-to-back wins against Australia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, that too by big-margins, but they still have to play big teams like England, New Zealand and South Africa.
However, Punter stated that India were always going to get off to a great start in the mega event, but, one bad game would change their fortunes.
"With the individual players that they have got it's going to take one bad game as a team and as an individual for the pressure to rise. Obviously, they've got off to a great start and they will be happy with that," Ponting was quoted as saying by ICC.
Ponting further stated that India have the required combination to do well but their real test will be under pressure.
"They've got all bases covered with their fast bowling, their spin and their top-order, middle-order batting. They're going to be extremely hard to beat. But we'll see how they hold up under extreme pressure as well. We can't sit back and say that the pressure won't get to them at some stage, or it won't affect them, because it will, just with the enormity of the tournament,” he added.
It must be noted India recorded a massive seven-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan courtesy of their skipper Rohit Sharma, who showcased his batting skills once again and top-scored for the winning side with 86 off 63 balls. His rapid knock included 12 boundaries.
Batting first, the Green Shirts were restricted to 191 in 42.5 overs courtesy of a collapse that saw them lose eight wickets for just 36 runs in 12.5 overs.
India play Bangladesh next on October 19, in Mumbai and Shakib Al Hasan side would be willing to do everything to emulate their Asia Cup 2023 triumph against the Blues to get back in the race to the World Cup semi-final as they have currently won one and lost two matches.
